Process Control Engineering Internship

East Penn's Spring or Summer Process Controls Engineering Internship program.


Internship opportunities are for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift. Qualified candidates will be an integral part of our Process Controls Engineering Department located at our main facility in Lyon Station, PA.


This is a paid internship position.



Desired candidate should have knowledge/experience working with Automation and Machine Control Systems. This would include PLC’s, HMI’s, Drives, Machine Level Communications, and Programmable Software. Specific experience desired includes automation troubleshooting, performing modifications, upgrades and the repair of automated process equipment for the manufacturing environment. Candidates should be self motivated and able to perform in an independent work environment. A demonstrated hands-on attitude, good communication, and teambuilding skills are required.


Responsibilities will include the troubleshooting/repair of AB PLC’s/HMI’s, machine level communication networks, SCADA systems, new automated machine controls integration, and providing site level technical support for production. This position will also ensure compliance to procedures, guidelines, and all standards that relate to the East Penn Engineering Department.


Qualified candidates should possess:

  • Experience in troubleshooting PLC/HMI software. (RS Logix 5, RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, RSView Studio, Panelbuilder 32, RS Networks preferred)
  • Experience with machine level device communications. (DH+, DH485, Remote I/O, Device Net, Control Net, Ethernet preferred)*
  • Experience with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems
  • Ability to read, understand, and modify electrical schematic drawing packages
  • Knowledge of engineering principles such as: statics, mechanics, electrical/electronics, pneumatics, and hydraulics
  • 480V 3 phase power and Variable Frequency Drives
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E requirements
  • Ability to work in a cross functional team of trained professionals
  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic, but rewarding environment
  • Electro-mechanical major preferred
  • Able and willing to work weekend/holiday shifts
